Automate App - User Guide

The Automate app handles the widest range of file types in Tag. It can display static content (e.g., text, images, zip), or edit dynamic content that mixes content, logic and data.

The most powerful file type supported is a pipeline, which taps into a deep pool of automation functionality. The Automate app is the only app able to edit or run pipelines.

Pipelines Pipelines contain steps that orchestrate a wide variety of automated processing. This is a very powerful no-code programming tool that is designed for non-technical people. User guide is pending - see related feature map topics.
Web APIs Web APIs can be called from within pipelines using connectors. User guide is pending - see related feature map topics.
Data setup Data setup files define what data is used by template files. They can also be used to validate XML content from within pipelines.
Templates Templates contain logic mixed with content. Content may be formatted text (like the Scribe app), or any other XML-based vocabulary (e.g., vector graphics). Template files can run on their own, or get called from within pipelines. Generating non-text output is discussed further in the feature map.
Expression editor Expressions are used in pipelines and templates. The expression editor provides point and click access to source data and a large collection of useful functions.
Rich text Like working in a word processor, but smarter. Logic instructions are wrapped in logic bubbles which flow within content like any paragraph content. Output can be exported as *.docx or *.html files.
